Once known simply as the Joker of the Unseen Court, he was the trickster to end all tricksters, a master of mischief who could bend probability, twist fate, and turn order into calamity with a flick of his wrist.

His madness—unrivaled.

But even the greatest trickster eventually finds a game he cannot win.

It began during the ancient Festival of Decks, a gathering where every royal card manifested in flesh and spirit. Kings, Queens, Jacks, and even Aces walked the marble halls of the Spire, their power woven into ceremonial cards of impossible magic.

Jess, ever the mischief-maker, decided this would be the year he played a trick on the Kings themselves.

He devised a prank to “swap the hearts of rulers,” intending to switch the temperaments of the King of Spades—cold, calculating, ruthless—with the King of Hearts—warm, emotional, dangerously idealistic. His goal? Pure chaos. He imagined a kingdom thrown into unpredictable disarray, where logic wept and passion plotted.

But as he prepared his spell, maniacally laughing with delight, he overlooked one detail:

Kings never play games alone.

The King of Spades caught him mid-chant.
The King of Hearts caught him mid-laugh.

Together, they forged a counter-curse—one designed not merely to stop him, but to teach him. Their combined powers clashed with Jess’s own chaotic magic in a burst of spiraling energy. The room shattered into shards of red and black light.

When the brilliance faded…

Jess was gone.

In his place hovered a strange card—black on one side, crimson on the other. A hybrid impossible by design: King of Spades in the top left corner, King of Hearts in the top right. And in the center, etched permanently into the artwork, was Jess himself—his manic grin stretched wider than ever, his eyes glinting with undying mischief.

Trapped.

Bound.
But not broken.

For within the confines of that cursed card, his mind twisted further. The duel of suits battling at the edges of his prison only magnified the chaos within him. The cold cruelty of Spades intertwined with the fiery passion of Hearts, creating a being neither king nor joker but something new—something infinitely unpredictable.

Now known as King Jess, he exists between order and madness, brilliance and destruction. Wherever the cursed card is found, his presence leaks through—an echo of laughter, a flicker of movement, a whisper of chaos waiting to be unleashed.

And if the card ever falls into the right (or wrong) hands…
